Welcome To 6-7, Vanderbilt: Commodores Eyeing To Hire Jeff Fisher As Next Coach
I had to do a double check when I saw this headline from Football Scoop.
Jeff Fisher....as an SEC head coach? Is this the Herm Edwards effect?
SOURCE-With all that said, this morning ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg weighed in on this subject:
“I’m told former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher is a potential target for Vanderbilt. Fisher remains popular in Nashville, and new Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner wouldn’t hesitate to make a nontraditional hire.”
I mean it makes sense, right? Fisher is a Tennessee guy and could give Vanderbilt a much-needed boost. Look at the last two schools to hire "failed" NFL coaches:
Herm Edwards: will be taking ASU to a second straight bowl game.
Lovie Smith: Illinois may be making a bowl game for the first time since 2014.
It may take a few years for Fisher to figure it out, but Vandy could get to a 6-7 level every year, which would be an improvement for the Commodores.
I kinda feel bad for Derek Mason.
However, you can't be losing by multiple scores at home to UNLV as an SEC team. If you get fired after that, it's on you. Not much else to say.
